1. Music. Play music during the time before service, when worshipers are being seated. Every smartphone has a built-in media player application. Using the playlist feature you can have songs ready to go for this time. Your smartphone’s output jack can be connected to your soundboard with a stereo cable.

2. Pictures and video. Most smartphones have cameras that take high-quality photos and video that can be sent almost instantly to your church’s social media sites, blog or website.

3. Messaging Texting and email can be used for communication within the sanctuary to minimize disruption of the morning service. Instead of walking between areas in the church, use messaging to facilitate and enhance the flow of information. For example, information on audio sound quality can be text-messaged between musicians and the studio.

4. Taking Notes. The memo or notepad application on your phone is great for taking notes on the sermon and jotting down scriptures.

5. Bible Gateway Whether you use their smartphone app or your phone’s web browser, sites like biblegateway.com can enhance participation. Access to dozens of translations as well as supplemental material is at the fingertips of congregants.
